As a hairdresser and blogger I've seen and heard about so many home hair remedies. Some sound good in theory and some just sound completely crazy and should not be tried.
There are some key ingredients I would recommend using like avocados, any type of oil, honey or yogurts. Additionally, it is also important to consider your hair type and condition, what works for one may not work for you. Nonetheless, here are some of my natural hair mask recommendations.
Masks I'd recommend
Avocado Hair Mask
avocado
egg yolk
castor oil
Aloe Vera Hair Mask
aloe vera gel
honey
castor oil
Coconut Hair Mask
coconut oil
honey
yogurt
Sunflower Oil Hair Mask
egg yolk
sunflower oil
yogurt
Masks I'd advise against
Egg Hair Mask
egg
olive oil
honey
yogurt
++ When washing off this mask I am confident that the warm water would start to cook the eggs and you'll end up with scrambled egg in your hair ++
Onion Hair Mask
onion juice
olive oil
++ This just seems like a horrible idea, there is no evidence that onions will be beneficial to your hair and I can imagine the aroma being overwhelming ++
Overall
If you haven't seen a product in typical hair repair products it is probably because it serves no benefit to your hair. Most of these home 'remedies' are created by non-hairdressers with little or no hair knowledge. As a hairdresser it can be frustrating when I see people sometimes ruin their hair because they followed the advise of someone online. Don't get me wrong, some of these remedies can work and when I was younger and before I was qualified I used to play around and experiment with different remedies. However, do your research and see what works well for you.
