London Zoo

The adventurer (on a budget) and the inner child within me was so excited to visit London Zoo. I visited the zoo years ago when I was a child and so I was excited to relive this childhood memory.

London zoo is located in the heart of London near Hyde Park. Its location in Regeats Park offers a beautiful green space around the zoo. It a hidden jungle in the centre of London that can be easily missed.

More than 1.25 million visitors pass through the gates of ZSL London Zoo every year.

London Zoo is the world's oldest scientific zoo. It was opened in London on 27 April 1828, and was originally intended to be used as a collection for scientific study.

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL) works for the conservation and the scientific study of animals and relies on the income generated by the zoo.

Fun Fact

From the joy of honey to living in the moment, there are so many life hacks Winnie the Pooh has taught us. And now, it turns out that the fictional bear isn't quite so fictional after all. In fact, it's based on an actual bear at London Zoo.

Zoorassic Park

Journey back 65 million years to the Mesozoic era and encounter the huge reptiles that once roamed the earth at ZSL London Zoo’s Zoorassic Park.

The new ZSL Zoorassic Park attraction includes about a number of life-sized, motorized dinosaurs that move and interact with visitors. Each of these structures is fitted with sensors which enables them to move, roar and even spit at the visiting guests when they get up close.

Spot the life-size, moving dinosaurs including a friendly brachiosaurus, a spike-covered edmontonia and huge tyrannosaurus rex, and learn all about these incredible creatures from your tour guide.

As you move from exciting fossil digs to baby dinosaur enclosures, you’ll also find out about the crucial work ZSL conservationists do to save today’s animals from extinction.

It was definitely a fun and intriguing experience roaming through the forestic path of the dinosaurs. With this said, I did find this experience to be knowledgable as now I know if I ever get transported millions of years in the past, I now know that dinosaurs can spit so I can prepare my spit-dodging reflexes.

Life in a fish tank

The zoo's aquarium had a vast collection of creatures but I didnt apreciate the impractical layout. I felt like it could've been more open and more fluid (excuse the pun) in the way one can explore the aquarium. There were many dead ends and most of the galleries seemed like a maze to which there is no intended route or destiniation for the visitors to follow. Although I did enjoy getting lost in the sea life the zoo had to offer, I wish the layout of the aquarium was less chaotic.

iT'S A bUGS liFE

I hate bugs, ewww... But I couldn't let myself neglect this part of the zoo.

Penguin Beach

Penguin Beach opened in 2011 and houses seventy Humboldt penguins. Until March 2017, a single male rockhopper penguin named Ricky also lived here, before being moved to ZSL Whipsnade Zoo.

I was disapointed with the variety of animals on offer. In a cosmopolitan city like London, I expected the variety of animals to reflect the city.

Most disapointingly there was no unicorns!

I dont understand how they could have dinosaurs but no unicorns?
