I get asked a lot how I grew my social media. I started my instagram account in 2017 and had no idea what I was doing. I've never had an Instagram account prior - even for personal purposes - so I had to learn how to use the app and literally start from zero followers and zero engagement. However, there was only up from there and I was dedicated to growing it.
At the time of writing this, I have 46.6k followers and 3.57% engagement rate (average 2.5%). This didn't come overnight but from lots of research and dedication I have achieved this and I'll tell you how.
Don't cheat! It devalues the industry and devalues your success;
A lot of haters will accuse me of paying for followers but I stand strongly against this as it destroys the industry. I offer social media and influencer marketing services professionally for businesses and I often hear that influencer marketing doesn't work but it is mostly because the influencers they have worked with previously to form this opinion do not have real or engaged followers. People can buy followers, likes, views and even comments. Although comments are the hardest thing to effectively buy, it is possible. Most influencers gain engagement from engagement pods in which someone in the group will post in the group and everyone else in the group will have to like and comment on the picture.
Understand your niche
Who are your target audience? This is foundation branding for your page. The main niches is Fashion, Beauty, Food, Travel, Interiors and Fitness. Some niches can blend together but not often. It is important that once you choose your niche that you keep to it. Don't confuse your audience or produce content they don't want to see. Engage and network with others in your niche - however big or small their page is - and support each other.
Quality not quantity
Being an influencer is a profession, so create professional standard content. I always try to create the best quality content from the image quality to the image concept. This is also a great way to stand out from the crowd. A lot of people will be in the same niche as you and your target audience will likely not follow everyone so make sure your content stands out from the crowd.
Quick Tip:
Instagram shrinks the file size of the images you upload so you can try to shrink the files your own way without distorting the images as much as the instagram app would and increase the sharpness of the images posting on the app.
